The General Medical Council and NHS organisations are currently preparing for the revalidation of Doctors. The purpose of revalidation is:
"To assure patients and the public, employers and other healthcare professionals that licensed Doctors are up-to-date and are practising to the appropriate standard".
(GMC Revalidation – The Way Ahead, 2009).
Revalidation is based on an effective system of appraisal, governance and quality assurance. Doctors employed permanently by organisations or who are independent contractors (e.g. GP Principals) will already be undertaking regular appraisals. The systems that underpin and support appraisal and revalidation will be overseen by a Responsible Officer (RO).
HCL Doctors are able to appoint an RO for those Doctors who work full time as a locum, or complete the majority of their locum work through us.
If you would like further information on how we can support you with revalidation please call 08450 613 613
The role of an RO will cover the following areas:
- Contracts of employment or provision of services
- Communicating with the GMC
- Monitoring conduct and performance
- Responding to concerns
