The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s A&E: A locum’s snapshot

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust’s Accident and Emergency provides emergency service to the 252,000 residents of Rotherham, as well as those further afield. The department itself sees approximately 74,000 patients a year, almost 210 a day. As part of its master vendor contract with the Trust, HCL Doctors is the first port of call for all locum shifts available in the A&E department, offering our doctors access before anyone else.

One of our doctors, an SPR who has worked at the Trust for two  or three days a week for two years, gives us a small snapshot of what working as a locum in the A&E department is like.
“Having worked regularly at the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust over the last couple of years, I have come to know the Trust and the A&E department well. AS a full-time locum, I have worked at several Trusts and what stands out about Rotherham is the friendliness of the other staff in the A&E. The whole team is very supportive and nice to work with. The consultants in the department are helpful and willing to help you with your development, and there is a varied working environment. I feel that the Rotherham’s A&E department is just the right size A&E to work in as a locum; not huge, but big enough to keep your skills up to date and offer variety in your day-to-day work.

My HCL recruitment consultant is also very helpful and supportive; I really enjoy working with her. She knows where I like to work and I get lot of work with her.”
